Advocacy is central to the mission of both the law and social work professions. Education in both disciplines provides professionals with unique knowledge and skills to meet the challenges of serving vulnerable populations and combating injustice. The required law school curriculum for this joint degree program includes the law school’s first and second-year required courses and the course in professional responsibility. Candidates spend their second year of the program primarily in the School of Social Work working on the required core curriculum for the MSW degree. Students are required to complete a concentration in the School of Social Work in the second through fourth years of the program, which includes a social work practicum/internship. Candidates are also required to write a research paper on a topic that addresses the fields of law and social work and that is designed to meet the advanced writing requirements of the law school.

Please note that an applicant interested in the joint degree program must follow all of the admissions requirements, application guidelines and time frames for acceptance into each program. If an applicant is accepted into both programs, there will be a meeting of advisors from each program with the student to plan the course of study.
